20 August 1988

It was a rest day today.  Although I think we drove from Stockholm to Bromma before continuing on to Oslo on the 21st.  While in Stockholm, we stayed in Cousin Phyllis' apartment.  Here are the photos from there and me with a mushroom at the campsite.

19 August 1988

Today we saw the Wasa.  As you can see from the photo, it was still being restored.  It "sank on its maiden voyage in the middle of Stockholm in 1628, and was salvaged 333 years later in 1961."  This was quite a site to see and amazing how they had been working to preserve it.

 We also went to the Skansen Open-Air Museum where among other things we saw this happy elephant playing with a log and my brother was enormously amused by the penguin shit and how it flowed down the rock.

18 August 1988

We got our Stockholm cards today to spend the next two days touring around.  Here's a lot of photos from wandering around.  I can't identify the buildings any more.  We did see the changing of the guard.  The other thing that we did today was visit the Riddarholmen Church and excellent Museum of Medieval Stockholm.

Our first day in Stockholm we went up the tower of the City Hall.  

It was a great view and we spent quite a lot of time watching the city.

We also had to get something from the department store - no idea what it was though.

16 August 1988 - Uppsula

Based in Stockholm, we spent the first day in Uppsala which has the oldest university in Stockholm, founded in 1477 and has been the ecclesiastical centre of Sweden since 1164.
