Winter Storm

So a winter storm blew through. We only got the tail end of it thankfully. I caught this truck undercarriage covered in snow which seemed very clean.

Longtime no post

It has been a while since I posted. It has been very busy at work - which I won't be talking about here. I did manage to have a nice weekend in Toronto with Vaedri and we bought a lot of yarn more than we both intended. So a good time was had by all:) Then my digital camera died - which makes posting on a photo blog a little hard. I am going to save up and get a nice one (anyone have a camera they like I'm taking recommendations.) In the meantime, it's going to be photos from my PDA camera so the quality will leave something to be desired I am sure. Here's the first stab. I will also take over my parents camera when I am home at Christmas.

An Autumn Drive

After work yesterday the sun was out and I decided to go for a drive to see if I could find a good place to take some pictures of the Autumn colours which are beautiful at the moment. I didn't find a good spot for that but I did find this lookout spot over Lake Nipissing.

Book Club

Our book club met on Thursday and we read Banker to the Poor by Muhammad Yunnus who along with the Grameen Bank which he helped create won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2006. It was a very interesting book where he describes how he founded. We went to Danny's Pasta and hada delicious meal. Danny's is outside of town so we had a nice drive out as the colours are changing. The best picture of the colours that I got included the construction. Oh well they are only just turning and I am hoping to get more before all the leaves fall off.

Meeting My Cousins in Toronto!

I'm catching up on posts today. My cousins, Christine and David, were over from England for a visit and I managed to meet up with them in Toronto on Labour Day weekend. We had a really nice visit and it is always nice to see them. When they went back to England, they saw my parents who were over there. We did a harbourfront tour in Toronto which I had never done before. It was the Tuesday after Labour Day so we practically had the whole boat to ourselves.

Start of a new Quilt

I'm about to start a new quilt. I'm taking a class to make my first full size quilt!! It is a pattern called "Turning Twenty" (I don't actually have the pattern yet.) I went and choose my 20 fat quarters today. Got them home and laid them out only to find that I do have one duplicate - d'oh! I don't think that it will matter and can probably switch it on the first day of the class.

I'm so excited!

You may be thinking, why is she so excited by this crane? It's because they have started work on replacing the roof in our building! Yeah, no more leaky roof!!!!

Another project finished

Well, I finally got this quilt backed, quilted and finished. I am really happy with the way it turned out! I think the dark green border really highlights the fabric.

Saturday, September 1st

It was a beautiful day, so I decided to go for a walk. It wasn't the some picturesque, but it was with a good destination in mind. I went to the post office to pick up my package. It was some books that I had ordered. This was one of them. Now I need yarn! And I have to pick which pattern I am going to start with!

COWS!

My Aunt Jane Keller Herzig has just completed another cow for the West Hartford 2007 CowParade. This is based on my Grandmother's favourite china pattern and it brings back many happy memories. Though I am not use to seeing it on a cow:) Below is the first cow that she did - Delft Portrait from 2003, another cow that I love. For more information, check out the CowParade site, the cows get auctioned off for charity!

Ready for Canada Day!

Well, better late than never. I finally got this runner finished. The fabric proved to be a bit of a pain to work with, but I am happy with it in the end.

Crochet T-Shirt

Okay here is the crochet t-shirt that I have been working on. I am not really happy with. I was going to give it as a gift but I don't think that it turned out well enough to do that.

A very wet golf day

Golfing in the rain!

Well, today was the first time I have ever spent time on a golf course. Only the second time I have ever been on a golf course. The first time was last week when we had an orientation day. This was to raise funds to build a new Library building. The day was pretty fun and it would have been much better except for the weather. Unfortunately, it rained and there was a thunderstorm and if you don't know, a golf course is not the best place to be during a thunderstorm.

I was working a novelty hole. Selling ballots for the entrants to guess how many balls would land on the green during the day. (If you don't understand this and want to know, umm, I got it explained to me so let me know in the comments and I'll attempt to explain - it involves short grass.) Fortunately, we also had a BBQ at our hole. This meant that we had food and a tent!

We got rained out and brought off the course twice (the whole lightening thing.) The golfers were really friendly and understanding about the weather - considering that they paid quite a bit of money to be playing. Although in the end we had a few laughs, I came home a took a nice hot shower since I was cold and damp!

The Golf Course when it wasn't raining.

A Zucchini kind of day.

My friend gave me a huge zucchini out of her garden. I should have taken a photo of it before I started cutting it up, but this is what is still left to be used. I included the pen to give a sense of scale. I made some yummy Zucchini Soup and some Zucchini Bread (to take in and share at work.)

I'm an AUNT!

The best news, my sister had her baby on Friday, a beautiful boy - Ahren! He weighed in at 8lbs 2 oz. Here's the cross stitch I did for him. I got it done in time to leave it with my Mom so she can get it framed. I had a lovely week at a cottage with my friends and will post more on that later.
