Famous Christmas Cake Incident of 1988

This was a by-product of the egg scare in England that year.  My Aunt Beryl had taken a cake decorating course that year and had decorated a beautiful Christmas cake.  Unfortunately there had been a salmonella outbreak that autumn and no one was using eggs.  She used fake eggs and as a result when we went to cut the icing, it had turned to concrete.  I can't even remember how we got through to the cake which was still edible, but it took a lot of time and effort!
