27 July 1988 - We arrive in Dijon

We arrived in Dijon and set up at the camp ground.  Where they had very good fries - on which I subsisted for much of the first few weeks.  There was much to do and we (read my parents) got down to getting us set up in Dijon.  Here was the tent that the five us spent much of the year living in.  Yet to be acquired were the table and chairs that everyone good European family lives with.

There were a lot of different nationalities in the camp ground. For a while there was a Dutch family next to us. The Mother tried to speak English. We wanted to talk to each other but she just did not know enough English and I knew no Dutch. Still they were pleasant and we smiled a lot at each other. Dad and I went into the city and found a Real Estate office. They sent us to see an apartment to accommodate a family of five. There was nothing in the apartment except felt carpet underlay and a sink in the kitchen. Still, it looked like home so we took it and moved all our stuff into it before setting out for our summer trip to Denmark, Sweden and Norway. Charlotte liked knowing where we were going to live.
